We make choices, face trials and overcome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/problem-solving-classical-guitar-polishing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">obstacles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\nwin, we lose, we succeed, we fail. And sometimes we\u2019re not sure\nwhether we came out on top or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guitar is challenging. And so is managing our energy, attention and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/time-and-energy-practice-guitar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">time<\/a>. There\u2019s no guarantee that we\u2019ll enjoy any single practice. Or make progress and see results from the time we spend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So\nhow do we keep showing up and putting in the effort? What\u2019s the\nfuel that keeps our <a href=\"https:\/\/el2.convertkit-mail.com\/c\/preview\/opfkhqh3\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY2xhc3NpY2FsZ3VpdGFyc2hlZC5jb20vZmxvdy1tb21lbnR1bS1waHJhc2luZy13b3Jkcy8=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">momentum<\/a> and restarts us after a break?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optimism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure,\nwe could list a thousand reasons why we may never play like the \u201cbig\nguys\u201d. But we can still remain upbeat and optimistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But\nhow do we do keep the positive attitude?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One way is to think of guitar as an infinite game. An \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/39F0zrG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">infinite game<\/a>\u201d is one we play for the fun of playing. There is no winner or loser &#8211; the only point is to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nmay be points won or lost along the way. But these matter less than\nthe game itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like\nwolf-cubs wrestling or the Sunday crossword, it\u2019s just something\nfun to do. Sure we try our best, and it feels great to come out on\ntop. But it doesn\u2019t really matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guitar\nis a long-term relationship. And many (most?) people who quit regret\nit later on. So one of the main goals is to just keep going. To not\nquit. And to <a href=\"https:\/\/el2.convertkit-mail.com\/c\/preview\/pnceh9hk\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY2xhc3NpY2FsZ3VpdGFyc2hlZC5jb20vcHJhY3RpY2UtYnJlYWsv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">start back up<\/a> after breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optimism\nis choosing that our goals ARE possible, if we but stay in the game.\nOr at worst, that taking the daily swing is reward enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday Quotes are short explorations of music, life, and the daily endeavor of practicing classical guitar.
