And this means constant difficulty and failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difficulties are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/guitar-practice-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">chosen<\/a>, and the failures are small. But we still have to contend with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If\nwe\u2019re not careful, we can slip into patterns of negative self-talk.\nIn our heads, we may whine and grumble. We may pine and woe. We may\nargue and fuss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\nthese responses feel safe. They bolster our egos. After all, it\u2019s\nnot \u201c<em>me<\/em>\u201d\nat fault &#8211; it\u2019s \u201c<em>my\nhands<\/em>\u201d\nor \u201c<em>my\nmind<\/em>\u201d\nor \u201c<em>my\n________<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we criticize, we take the high ground and feel superior. We point the finger and somehow feel better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So all the inner <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/frustrated-with-guitar\/\" target=\"_blank\">cussing<\/a> is a defense mechanism for our egos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what other option do we have? After all, everybody does it, right?\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps a more useful attitude is: &#8220;Wow, this is harder than I thought.&nbsp; Yippee!&#8221;&nbsp; We embrace the challenge and know&nbsp;that success is (eventually) inevitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Author <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/melanie-curtin\/brene-brown-says-this-is-most-vulnerable-human-emotion-in-world-its-not-shame.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bren\u00e9 Brown<\/a> says that joy is the most vulnerable emotion. And to be vulnerable, even alone in a room with our music, takes an element of bravery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nis why Voltaire calls optimism courageous. And he also names being in\na good mood a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trial and error are necessary parts of the learning process. It&#8217;s a package deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But we get to choose our moods.
