Carse<\/em> <\/cite><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:separator --><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"><!-- \/wp:separator --><p><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Playing pieces of music, it\u2019s not uncommon to make unexpected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/no-mistakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">mistakes<\/a>. Indeed, the random buzzed note or missed string is a regular occurrence for most players.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>These surprise mishaps are due to lack of training. We know the notes, and we know the moves. This take time, repetition, and one-pointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/curiosity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">attention<\/a>. \u201cEducation\u201d takes study, experimentation, and often an experienced teacher.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>We need both. We need to know what may go wrong, and how to avoid or recover should it happen. And we need to train our bodies and hands to execute consistently.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an old saying in the theater world: \u201cAn amateur studies her lines until she remembers them. A professional studies her lines until she can\u2019t forget them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Amateurs are often shocked by how much work it takes to truly train something. It\u2019s more concentration that they are used to. It takes more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/short-guitar-practices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">time<\/a> and effort than it seems like it should.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Actor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Downey_Jr.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Robert Downey, Jr.<\/a> is a professional. He is said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/memorize-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">memorize<\/a> his lines to the degree where he can say them quickly in reverse order. (i.e. \u201cSee Jane run\u201d becomes \u201crun Jane See.\u201d) This is more than learning &#8211; this is training. And it\u2019s motivated by his understanding of his craft.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>It takes massive focus and practice to perform consistently at the highest level, with each note clear and intentional. This is true even for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/easy-pieces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">easy<\/a>\u201d pieces.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Many players lose interest and move to a new piece before the work is done. This is why the random errors appear when we play. When we don\u2019t spend the time to fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classicalguitarshed.com\/polish-performance-level\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">polish<\/a> a piece, we miss many of the lessons and obstacles needed.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>So errors are no mystery. They are usually a lack of training.
